Hawks close the gap

Josh Jones was on target five minutes before half-time but Hawks could not manage the second goal which would have lifted them above Kingstonian into second place. Carshalton slipped into the bottom two.

Lowestoft moved up to fourth, five points behind Hampton with a game in hand, with a comfortable 3-0 home win over Wingate. Chris Henderson put them ahead in the sixth minute and further goals from Lee Smith and Joe Francis completed the scoring by the 40-minute mark. Wingate Ryan Gardiner was sent off in the second half.

A hat-trick by Bradley Woods-Garness made him the division’s joint top scorer with seven league goals and powered Canvey to a 3-1 victory over Margate. He opened the scoring on 24 minutes, added his second on the hour and made sure in the 70th minute, after a red card for Dean Mason reduced Canvey to ten men. Dean Stubbs netted a late consolation for the visitors.

Bognor’s goalscoring troubles at Nyewood Lane continued with a 3-0 defeat by Harrow. The Sussex Rocks have scored only once in six home games. Simeon Akinola put Harrow ahead immediately after half-time and scored again after Michael Peacock had notched the second.

Bury salvaged their unbeaten away record with an equaliser in added time from John Sands at Cray. Joe Vines put the home side ahead in the 24th minute and they looked well on the way to three points when Mark Willy added another on the hour. But a Craig Parker penalty in the 76th minute gave Bury hope and Sands made it 2-2 with time running out.

Two sides who have reached the first round of the FA Cup met, fittingly, in the shadow of the Wembley arch and shared the points in a 1-1 draw. Jack Mazzone put Hendon ahead after 23 minutes and Ty Smith equalised for visiting Met Police just before half-time.
