The football season comes to an end, and what do you do with your time? Well if you're a resident of Sussex, here are two options!
On Sunday Burgess Hill Town are hosting a charity football match between players from their Sussex County League title-winning squads of 2001 and 2003 and a team of 'Sussex All-Stars.' The match is to honour and support former Hillian Matty Ash, one of their title winners who has been suffering from Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, and hopes to raise funds to help Matty and his family as well as to support the Rockinghorse Childrens Charity and the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.
Entry will be by donation, and you can also give via this Go Fund Me link.
The Sussex All-Stars will include Dean Lightwood, Stuart Tuck, Paul Rogers, Gary Chivers, Darren Freeman, Peter Heritage, Gerry Armstrong, Jamie Howell, Jamie Moore, Gary Hart, Lewis Hatchett, Ryan Heal, Kerry Mayo, Ian Chapman, Ian Simpemba, Matt Machan, Jamie Ash, Adie Konieczny, Jamie Harman and Paul Watson- all names familiar with football fans across the county.
Meanwhile Shoreham FC will be throwing open their doors on Sunday 6th May for their annual charity extravaganza. The action will begin at Middle Road at 11, and there will be hot food, a bar, a raffle, an Auction, a DJ, face painting and lots of football, with Shoreham Under 15's taking on the Russell Martin Academy at 1130 before the Shoreham Vets play at 1.30.
All money raised will go to Crohn's and Colitis UK, in honour of Luca Slaney, son of co-chair Stuart and an enthusiastic member of the Under 15's squad, who has missed most of his football this season because he has been suffering from Crohn's. Happily he is now in remission and will be able to pull on his boots once more for the match.
