Invicta hail stalwarts for snow job

Folkestone Invicta's grateful officials have been thanking the volunteers who cleared their ground of snow in time for the club to host Worthing in the Ryman League's top flight on Saturday.

The Kentish club's board publicly thanked supporters on Monday for their "sterling efforts" on Saturday morning to ensure the playing surface at the Fullicks Stadium was fit for the Ryman Premier fixture.

More than 300 fans eventually turned out for the 4-2 reverse at hands of the Rebels and Invicta chief executive Cliff Egan said: "While the result did not go our way, your efforts were not in vain as the lack of home games over this period has hit our cash-flow and having no game yesterday would not have helped that situation.

“Your work spending time to ensure that the game could be played has helped the club immensely. So to John Law and the team of ground workers, a huge thanks to you for your efforts. And also of course to groundsman Gary Towse who has prepared a great pitch to play on this season which again played well yesterday, despite the weather."

A club spokesman added: "Colin Ashman's picture above shows just what a great job Gary, Lawsy and the lads did yesterday morning. For most of us arriving 1.30pm onwards there was hardly a sign of the snow other than a small pile or two well clear of the touchlines."
