It's a Big Bostik (and Cup) Tuesday night!

By Ian Townsend

We’ve a massive night of League and Cup action tonight, and we might even have new leaders of every division by 10 P.M. Here are the highlights.

There are two massive FA Cup replays tonight. Firstly, at the AGP Arena, Billericay Town will attempt to overcome National League South opponents Hungerford Town. The Blues might feel that they should have won the initial tie, and even though their opponents are higher in the pyramid must be favourites tonight. The winners will travel to Brackley Town of National League North, who defeated Billericay’s neighbours Braintree Town 4-1 on Saturday.
Harlow Town might think that they were unlucky not to beat high-flying National League South side East Thurrock United on Saturday, given that they were 2-1 up at half time, but they’ll need to do it all again tonight at the Harlow Arena. The winners will entertain Ebsfleet United in the Fourth Qualifying Round.

In the Premier Division, either Hendon or Kingstonian could take Billericay’s place at the top of the table with victories tonight. Technically, so could Leiston and Wingate & Finchley, although they’d need to win by nine or thirteen clear goals respectively! The Greens of Hendon, who scored seven goals without reply in two matches last week, have a short trip to Enfield Town, whilst Kingstonian travel to the Green Elephants Stadium to take on Saturday’s FA Cup heroes Burgess Hill Town. The kick off for the latter match is 7.30 PM, and train travellers should alight at Wivelsfield Station, turn left and follow signs to the nature reserve. Yes, really!

Leiston are at home to Brightlingsea Regent and, lest we forget, are still unbeaten in the league, whilst Wingate & Finchley travel to Harrow Borough. In the other matches, Tooting & Mitcham United look for their first victory of the season as they host Staines Town, Tonbridge Angels entertain Margate in a Kentish derby, Thurrock take on Needham Market, and there are also home games for Metropolitan Police and Merstham, who take on Dorking Wanderers and Folkestone Invicta respectively.

In the North Division, AFC Hornchurch look to shake off their FA Cup defeat at Hereford on Saturday and preserve their one hundred percent league record, as they entertain Grays Athletic. Grays have lost their last three matches, but that perhaps makes them dangerous, so Jimmy McFarlane- who, by the way, will be the subject of our Friday interview this week- will be taking nothing for granted.

Should the Urchins falter, then Canvey Island, Bowers & Pitsea or Haringey Borough could sit at the top of the summit tonight. Canvey travel to face an inconsistent Tilbury side, whilst Bowers are also on the road, heading to Witham Town. Borough, big winners in the FA Cup at the weekend, head to face a Barking side without a victory in their last four matches.

Potters Bar Town will hope to jump back into a play-off position as they travel to Brentwood Town, a resurgent Maldon and Tiptree travel to a similarly improving AFC Sudbury, Bury Town could go sixth with victory over Hertford Town, whilst Ware entertain Cheshunt.

Bottom side Norwich United will not be bottom if they can defeat Soham Town Rangers.

In the South Division Corinthian Casuals, Sittingbourne and Whyteleafe could all top the table with a victory tonight. Casuals look to have the most difficult task as they travel to Greenwich Borough, but undoubtedly the same was felt when they played the same opponents in the play-offs on 25th April- and we all know what happened then. Sittingbourne travel to face a Herne Bay side who seem to blow hot and cold, whilst Whyteleafe go to VCD Athletic to face a side who halted a run of five consecutive defeats with victory over East Grinstead Town at the weekend.

Fifth place Walton Casuals travel to face Chipstead, both sides having recorded impressive victories at the weekend, whilst Carshalton Athletic travel to face a Hastings United side who haven’t really got going yet. Seventh place South Park head to Ashford United looking to bounce back from conceding eight goals last week, whilst ninth place Hythe Town entertain Thamesmead Town.

In other matches bottom side Shoreham host a Horsham side who are also struggling for points, Ramsgate entertain Faversham Town, whilst East Grinstead Town go to Molesey.

There is also one tie in the Velocity Trophy, as cup heroes Heybridge Swifts host Mildenhall Town.

By the way, the image features Chris, John, Mick and Eddie, fans of Hendon FC!
