It's a big FA Cup Saturday!

By Ian Townsend

If you haven't made your mind up where to go today, here's our FA Cup Saturday preview.

Welcome to FA Cup Saturday! A number of our sides embark on their latest FA Cup adventure today, only two steps from the promised land of the First Round Proper. We thought we'd take a look at the ties so that, if you haven't yet decided where to go, we can perhaps help to make your mind up.

Perhaps the tie of the round might be the last one on the list- but it's probably not one that you're going to get to unless you set off yesterday! AFC Sudbury will undoubtedly have shared the nightmare of Cornish holidaymakers and spent at least an hour stuck behind a tractor on the A30, and at 3PM they have the hardest job of any side in the draw- they have to defeat National League South leaders Truro City. The White Tigers haven't lost since August 26th, but AFC are also in good form with five straight victories and won't be daunted by the task ahead.

Closer to home- and let's be fair, almost anywhere would be closer to home- the Back of the Net team will be covering the Kentish derby between Margate and Herne Bay. Margate, like Truro, last lost a game in August and have won every match but one since, but Bay will be no pushovers and have been scoring goals for fun recently. You can listen to commentary from the game at here- and, if you tune in from eleven, you can also catch lots of interviews and the live draw for the Velocity Trophy and the Isthmian Women's Cup.

Burgess Hill Town have a tough tie, entertaining mid table National League South side Wealdstone. The visitors have had an inconsistent season so far, and Hill will hope that they can get a positive result as well as impressing the Wealdstone Raider with the quality of their ground and the number of their fans. We certainly don't want any more Sussex based videos suggesting otherwise.

Unbeaten Leiston will be confident ahead of their tie at National League South Oxford City- a bit of a misnomer given their ground is absolutely nowhere near the city centre whatsoever. Still, at least it has four sides, unlike that of their neighbours Oxford United. City have won only one game since mid-August- their victory over struggling Whitehawk in the last round- and if Matt 'Steak Bake' Blake is on form then the pride of Suffolk have every chance.

Back in Suffolk, Needham Market entertain National League South Dartford. A string of Dartford victories came to an end last weekend at Weston-Super-Mare, and The Marketmen, for whom Dan Morphew has scored in his last three games, come into this match fresh from a morale boosting midweek victory over Harlow Town and boast only one defeat from their last six games.

Our one hundred percenters, AFC Hornchurch, have had a long trip to Hereford. The Bulls should be favourites, sitting pretty in fourth place in the Evo-Stik South Premier Division and likely to be roared on by a crowd of more than two thousand, but they will underestimate the Urchins at their peril. No team that wins eleven matches in a row- a phenomenal achievement- should be taken lightly.

League leaders Billericay Town travel to a Hungerford side who lost 5-0 to their Essex neighbours Braintree Town last weekend, and should be favourites despite playing a side from the league above, whilst Heybridge Swifts reward for their midweek giant-killing of Metropolitan Police is to entertain Frome Town, who lost 3-0 to Hereford midweek.

Leatherhead travel to Ashford Town (Middlesex) to face a tangerines side who sit in third place in the Evo-Stik South Division. Town have won their last four matches, including a seven-one win over Northwood on Tuesday night, whilst the Tanners have been on a terrible run, losing to Chipstead, Dulwich Hamlet and Margate over the past fortnight.

Dorking Wanderers travel to Canvey Island to play Concord Rangers, and might perhaps fancy their chances of springing an upset. Rangers sit two from the bottom of National League South and apart from defeating Tunbridge Wells in the last round have been on a terrible run of form, losing six in a row before that match. They did, however, grab a 1-1 draw at Hampton and Richmond Borough last weekend, however, so will be hoping that their slump is over.

Folkestone Invicta’s reward for defeating Greenwich Borough and Tooting and Mitcham United was a home tie against Aylesbury United. There is a good omen for the Fullicks, in that they beat the Ducks 2-0 during their run in 2005/06, in doing so qualifying for the First Round of the competition for the first- and at the moment, last- time. The home side are on a very good run of form at the moment, and with their passionate supporters willing them on will be confident that their time for FA Cup success has come around again.

Harlow Town travel to East Thurrock United, a difficult match given that the home side have lost only once all season- last weekend to Truro City- and that Town have conceded nine goals in their last two matches. There is an all Bostik tie at Donkey lane, where Enfield Town entertain South Division Phoenix Sports. Town have yet to find any consistency and you could very much say the same about Sports, so it’s difficult to predict which way this one will go.

Finally, Haringey Borough have described their match with Bideford as their biggest game for thirty years, and should be confident after their fantastic start to the season. Bideford will be no pushovers, however. They beat the second best team in Cornwall, Bodmin Town, 1-0 in a midweek replay, are at the same level of the pyramid as Borough, and although struggling for consistency have scored eleven goals in four FA Cup matches so far. Again, it looks rather too close to call.

The best of luck to all of our sides today. We look forward to seeing you in the Fourth Qualifying Round draw next week!
