K's go through in fiery finish

By Peter Butcher

ONLY two of the four scheduled games tonight (Wednesday) survived the late afternoon rain, and the most eventful of them was at Imber Court where Kingstonian reached the League Cup quarter-finals with a 3-2 victory over Met Police.

Ty Smith fired in a half-volley to put the Met ahead after 35 minutes and Dean Lodge equalised midway through the second half.

The referee was the centre of attention in the last 15 minutes. K’s went ahead through Craig Mullen, Smith replied for the Met and Lodge netted the winner, with all three goals coming from penalties. Then Lodge and a home player were sent off.

Kingstonian will visit Dulwich or Wealdstone in the quarter-finals, that tie having been one of tonight’s postponed games. The other was the Ryman North derby between Ilford and Waltham Forest, which has been rearranged for January 2.

There was Ryman South action at Herne Bay, where Faversham romped to a 3-0 win and climbed to fourth place in the table.

Kieran Oliver opened the scoring in the second minute and Luke Harvey made it 2-0 after 18 minutes. It was Harvey, too, who wrapped it up with nine minutes left, his 10th league goal this season.
