AFC Sudbury's caretaker manager Danny Laws isn't ruling out taking the helm on a permanent basis but is happy to carry on for as long as it takes for the Ryman North club to decide on a permanent successor to David Batch.

Laws, pictured, took the reins on a temporary basis on December 30 following the departure of Batch and his coaching team to Evo-Stik Southern League St Neots Town.

Speaking before his side's 3-1 victory over Soham Town Rangers on Tuesday night, Laws revealed that he was keeping an open mind over his future after being originally recruited by Batch in the summer to develop the youth and academy set-up at the Wardale Williams Stadium.

The ex-Leiston and Needham Market manager, who is also keen to continue the good work he has started with the Ryman North club’s youngsters, told www.greenun24.co.uk: "It’s a great club with great people and I want to be part of it, ideally in the same [academy] role that I am doing now, because we have big plans for the youth and development section of the club.

"I was pleased to go back to my roots and work with the youngsters, which is not something I have done since my West Suffolk College days. The outcome of the first-team manager’s role will be determined by the quality of applicants and I’m just pleased that I’ve been able to step into the breach.

"How long will that be for? Who knows? For a job of this magnitude, the right person needs to be appointed in the long-term. Let’s wait and see what happens."

In a statement on the club's website, AFC Sudbury general manager Richard Instance said their board was in no rush to appoint Batch’s successor with Laws holding the fort.

He said: "We have had a couple of CVs arrive and as a Board we will be sitting down at the end of this week and deciding where we want to go. We are very fortunate to have someone of Danny Laws’ calibre to step in and he is happy to do that."
