Ryman League chairman Alan Turvey is at Leatherhead's Fetcham Grove on Saturday celebrating the Surrey club's famous run to the fourth round of the FA Cup forty years ago.

The Isthmian League's president was one of a number of honoured guests and local dignitaries invited to help the club's proud fans, players and officials mark their run in the cup and battling 3-2 defeat at Leicester City's Filbert Street on January 25 1975.

The Tanners forfeited home advantage to take on Foxes and led 2-0 at half-time in front of 32,000 fans. To mark what is still the most famous game in the club’s history, the FA Cup itself was also on display at a specially organised lunch for many of their heroes from 1975.

The event was taking place before the Tanners took on the Metropolitan Police in the Ryman’s top flight and the the BBC's cameras and microphones were also in attendance filming and recording for special features on Football Focus and BBC 5 Live.

Leatherhead’s run in the cup is still remembered as one of the best ever by a Non-League side. After knocking out Isthmian League rivals Bishops Stortford in the first round, Colchester United became the Surrey side’s first ever League scalp in round two before they beat Brighton away to set up the fourth round tie with Leicester.
