League unveils safest hands

By David Watters

Tonbridge Angels keeper Anthony Di Bernardo is looking forward to picking up his second 'safe hands' award of the campaign but he'll have to share the Ryman League's October accolade with Enfield Town's Nathan McDonald.

The Towners keeper, 23, is on a season long loan from National League Braintree Town and recorded an identical record last month to win his first Precision Golden Glove Award of the campaign. Like 32-year-old Di Bernardo, signed in May from Peacehaven & Telscombe, the England C stopper conceded a single goal in three league outings.

AFC Hornchurch's Sam Mott in Ryman North and Josh Pelling in Ryman South were named alongside the pair on Thursday as the winners of the latest goalkeeping awards which returned in 2013 with new sponsors from Nottingham-based Reydon Sports PLC - the UK's largest sports and leisure wholesale and distribution company.

They are sponsoring the monthly accolades through their Precision Goalkeeping brand and the four keepers will all be presented with a pair of Precision Goalkeeping gloves, the prizes provided by ProKit UK, the nominated retailer administering the awards on behalf of Precision Training.

Former Thamesmead Town keeper Sam Mott signed for the Urchins last season and opted to stay with the club following their relegation in May. He took the laurels in Ryman North for keeping three sheets in four league outings and conceding just once to keep his club in the play-off spots and the hunt for promotion heading into November.

In Ryman South, Pelling, a PE teacher at the City of London Academy, conceded a single goal in four league outings to earn the division's accolade.

Now in his third season at the Pilot Field after arriving from Eastbourne Town in the summer of 2013, the 24-year-old was with Brighton & Hove Albion as a youngster before joining neighbours Rye United when he was released by the Seagulls in 2010.

Precision Goalkeeping boast an impressive list of keeping talent on their books including Kasper Schmeichel, Kieren Westwood, Tomasz Kuszczak, Darren Randolph, David Forde, Frank Fielding, Brian Jensen, Robert Olejnik, Andy Lonergan, Ian McLoughlin, Trevor Carson and Republic of Ireland goalkeeping coach and former international Alan Kelly.

Former England manager Graham Taylor is lead ‘brand ambassador’ for the company which was established in 2005 and also has official partnerships with the Irish Football Association and the Football Association of Wales.
