Legend makes winning return

Stuart Thurgood made a winning return to Grays Athletic on Wednesday night in the Ryman League's top flight.

The club legend, pictured, was on the touchline alongside Grays Athletic manager Jamie Stuart for the club's 3-1 home win over Harlow Town in the Ryman Premier after joining his backroom staff as a player-coach on Tuesday.

Thurgood played 157 times for the Essex club between 2003 and 2008, lifting the FA Trophy twice with the Blues in 2005 and 2006 before making more than 50 more appearances in four subsequent spells.

Now 34, the experience midfielder lists Gillingham, Dagenham & Redbridge and Southend United among his former clubs.
