Long-serving chairman steps down

Peacehaven & Telscombe

Jim Edwards has retired as chairman of Ryman South champions Peacehaven & Telscombe.

Edwards, pictured at the Magpies' end of season awards at the Sports Park last weekend, has stood down after 36 years at the helm. A former player at the club in the 1970s, his successor was named on Friday as Andrew Melbourne, previously the club's community development officer.

Edwards leaves the Sussex outfit after guiding them through the most successful decade in their history which has seen the club rise from the lower reaches of the Sussex County League to reach the Ryman League.

After winning promotion to Ryman South in May 2013 as Sussex champions, the Magpies under manager Shaun Saunders stormed to a second successive title in April to enter the Ryman's top flight in August and also beat Bognor Regis Town 3-0 at Brighton's AMEX Stadium earlier this month to win the Sussex Senior Cup.
