Lottery winner collects his cash!

Folkestone Invicta

One of Folkestone Invicta’s local newsagents has scooped the £1,000 first prize in the Ryman South club’s Superdraw Lottery.

Roger Piddock, pictured receiving his winning cheque from Invicta striker Paul Booth, runs a long-established family business in Folkestone and has been a familiar face at the club’s home games for many years.

His success follows that of two customers at another Folkestone newsagents - Rochefort’s in Cheriton - who took the first prize for a £1 stake within weeks of each other during the summer.

The fundraising scheme has already helped Invicta raise more than £45,000 in recent years and is part of the Goalden Gate Lottery which is used by a number of clubs across the country. In the Ryman League they include Invicta's Kent neighbours Margate, Ramsgate and Whitstable Town and further afield Bury Town. On top of the £1,000 top prize there are other weekly cash prizes of £150, £100 and £75 plus two prizes of £50, four of £25, twenty of £10 and thirty of £5.

As well as taking part in the main draw, fans are also entered automatically into the club’s weekly Birth Date Accumulator Jackpot for a cash prize of £100 which increases by £100 every week until won.

Folkestone’s director of sales and marketing Cliff Egan said: "Thank you to all our supporters who contribute already for the marvellous amount you have already helped to raise for the football club. For those who may not have come across this major fundraiser for the club, this is your chance to donate and hopefully win big cash prizes as well as contributing to the financial well-being of the club."

He added: "It is a huge part of the club's fundraising programme, from which the club receives monthly income 12 months of the year even – not just during the football season."

Applications to join the lottery can be downloaded from the club’s website at: www.folkestoneinvictafc.co.uk. Alternatively, email cliffegan.fifc@gmail.com for more information.
