Magpies borrow Hawks hot-shot

Peacehaven & Telscombe

Ryman South Peacehaven & Telscombe have taken forward Sam Gargan on loan from Conference South Whitehawk.

Last season's Sussex County champions announced on Friday that Gargan had signed on for a month with manager Shaun Saunders hoping he'll add another layer to the Magpies' attack as they settle into the Ryman following promotion.

The 24-year-old scored more than 40 goals in two seasons at Whitehawk, helping them win promotion as Ryman Premier champions in May and Saunders said: "Sam is a brilliant addition at a busy time for the club. He's got a great strike rate and with a mixture of league and cup games approaching it gives us an extra boost.

"Obviously the club's first priority is to get as many points on the board [as [possible]. We've had a good start and the boys have gelled together well. It helps Sam's played with people here before so it won't take him long to settle in."

Looking ahead to Saturday's Preliminary Round tie against Ashford United, he added: "We've got the chance to progress the furthest we will have in the competition for a good few seasons. We know Ashford United have had a good start to their season so our players know they have to go out and put in another really good performance to be the first team to beat them this season."
