Marketmen hand over thousands

By David Watters

Needham Market are set to kick off another Ryman League season after proud fans, players and officials raised thousands of pounds for charity at their annual golf day.

After handing over nearly £3,000 to the world famous Papworth Hospital Trust last summer, the Marketmen returned to the Hintlesham Golf Club in glorious sunshine to raise £2026 for The Bumbleebee Childrens Charity.

Nearly 100 people attended the Ryman Premier club's seventh annual golf day with 22 teams competing in individual 'Stableford' competitions and team events. In total, the Marketmen's golf days have raised in excess of £12,500 for good causes and Needham Market secretary Mark Easlea is pictured handing over a cheque for their latest efforts to volunteers at the children charity's base in Burstall near Ipswich.

Easlea said: "They do fantastic work with young children who have difficulties with movement and coordination. Once again there was an excellent offering of prizes, auction items and raffle prizes complemented by excellent food and service. Sincere thanks goes to everyone who supported the day and continues to support the event as without this generosity the day wouldn't be such a success.

"They rely upon the generosity of individuals and companies to raise funds for them to continue the great work they do which is all voluntary and run by a dedicated and hard working team. £2026 was raised for such a worthy charity and the money will be used to continue the great work and support they give to the children and families who use their facility."

* Needham Market's long-term main shirt sponsors at The Windscreen Company have agreed to extend their sponsorship until the end of the upcoming 2016-17 season. Manager Mark Morsley told fans he was delighted that the Ipswich-based company was on board again to continue their association with the club's progress which stretches back to 2005.

Morsley said: “There are many famous shirt sponsors that are synonymous with the professional club they support and I believe we have that at Needham Market FC. I really feel our kit would not be the same without The Windscreen Company on the front."
