Markland returns as new President

Hythe Town

Paul Markland has been welcomed back to Hythe Town as the Ryman South club's new President.

Markland, who stepped down as Chairman at the Reachfields Stadium after 12 years at the helm in May to concentrate on his work commitments, replaces Lord Howard of Lympne.

Markland, 63, oversaw the club’s climb from the lower reaches of the Kent League to the Ryman League. When his predecessor as President resigned, he was one of many at the club who suggested Markland was the ideal candidate to replace him.

Markland's appointment was officially announced after Hythe beat Redhill 1-0. Forters Chairman John Dowsett is pictured, right, welcoming him back to the club.

Dowsett said: "I am delighted to announce the return of Paul Markland to Hythe Town Football Club as our new President. As the majority of our supporters know, Paul was the chairman of the club for twelve years and decided to step down at the end of last season. I believe that with Paul back at the club in the guise of president it can only benefit the club with the continuity and experience that it brings. Welcome back Paul!"
