Marriott foils Maidstone

By Peter Butcher

A GOAL by Horsham’s Ryan Marriott denied Maidstone a return to the top of the Ryman North table tonight (Tuesday).

Needing three points to knock Dulwich out of top spot, Stones took the lead at Gorings Mead in the 40th minute through Shaun Welford only for Marriott to hit back three minutes later. That was the end of the scoring and it finished 1-1.

Ten-man Sittingbourne won 1-0 at Leatherhead to put one over on their former boss Richard Brady. It was the Tanners’ sixth defeat in ten home games but, despite that, they are third in the table.

The Brickies had Nick Treadwell sent off eight minutes before half-time but won it with a 71st-minute own goal by Mark Simmons and moved up to sixth place, with only goal difference keeping them out of the play-off spots.

Worthing moved up to ninth with a 2-1 home win over Ramsgate. Tom Lawley gave Rebels a 15th-minute lead but Ashley Miller equalised immediately after half-time, leaving home fans fearing that they were heading for their 10th home defeat. A minute later, however, Chris O’Flaherty restored the advantage and it proved to be enough.
