McCann commits to another season

By David Watters

Gary McCann will be at the helm of Hendon for the thirteenth and fourteenth consecutive season after committing his future to the Ryman Premier's Greens.

McCann, pictured, is looking forward to taking charge until the end of the 2018-19 campaign and turning the club's fortunes around for their second season at Silver Jubilee Park next term after securing their top flight status with a 1-1 draw at home to Staines Town on the last day of the season.

McCann, who took over in 2005, told fans via the club's website on Friday: “I’m very happy to commit to the club going forward. It now has the stability and potential to really grow and match the ambition of not just myself, but my management team and the players.

“We have had a difficult and troubled couple of seasons and I personally have felt this more than most. We have settled in to our new surroundings at Silver Jubilee Park and have learnt plenty from the last two tough seasons.

“I sat with the board earlier this week and asked for some assurances and support to move this fantastic football club forward. They have shown me belief and understanding all the way through, and have stayed loyal and committed to myself but then this is a two way thing by all parties."

He added: “We can now look forward to wisely progressing on the field to mirror the progression made off the field. The future's bright, the future's Green. #GreenArmy"”

A Greens spokesman said: "We are delighted to announce that Gary McCann has committed to the club for a further two years, meaning he will be with us until the end of the 2018-19 season.

"Gary and the board of directors met earlier this week to discuss the budget for next season. This has also been agreed and Gary is now working hard to put his squad together for the new campaign."
