McKenzie fires debut hat-trick

By Peter Butcher

NEW signing Leon McKenzie fired a hat-trick as Concord strengthened their grip on third place in the Ryman Premier table with a 4-1 home win over Wingate tonight (Thursday).

The relegation-threatened visitors took a surprise lead inside two minutes when Spencer Bellotti headed home a corner.

McKenzie equalised with a low shot in the 15th minute, seconds after Wingate had been denied a penalty at the other end, and another debutant, Sergio Makofo, pounced on a loose ball to put Concord ahead ten minutes before the interval.

It was an uphill task for Wingate after the break, with midfielder Daniel McGonigle now between the posts, but they made a game of it until the 74th minute, when McKenzie rounded the stand-in and walked the ball into the empty net. He completed his treble in the 89th minute.
