Midfielder returns as new assistant manager

Harlow Town manager Danny Chapman has brought Spencer Knight back to the Ryman North’s Hawks as his new assistant manager.

The midfielder returned to fill the post left vacant following the departure of Paul West-Hook last week. He served as both assistant manager and physiotherapist at the Harlow Stadium last season and left the club to concentrate on his full-time work commitments.

Knight will also be available to play for Chapman from November when he is expected to have fully recovered from a recent operation.

Former St Albans City, Chelmsford City, Canvey Island and Billericay Town midfielder Knight, pictured, played for the Hawks during the 2009-10 campaign and was assisting Nicky Ironton on the coaching staff at near neighbours Ware last term.

Chapman, who has also appointed Ryan Jessey as his chief scout, said: "Even though we did well last season I feel things needed freshening up. Spencer has strong credentials. He scouted for Brentford last season and he is someone I can trust. He will bring something fresh. It works for me and it works for him."

The club say West-Hook's physio duties at training and on matchdays will be covered in the new season by Tom Green with more serious injuries referred to Ed Kirby.

Paying tribute to the work of West-Hook, a Hawks spokesman added: "The club would like to take this opportunity to thank Paul for his services over the years and wish him all the best for the future."
