Monday's Ryman Premier action review

Ryman League Premier Division

Kingstonian made it five wins from six matches in the Ryman Premier on Bank Holiday Monday against Hampton & Richmond Borough at Kingsmeadow, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Ryan Moss scored the only goal of the game in front of a crowd of just over 500. Just as impressive though is the fact that Ks kept a sixth clean sheet, making it 540 minutes without the conceding a goal.

Newly-promoted sides Dulwich Hamlet and Grays Athletic follow in the fledgling table and they couldn`t be separated as they shared a goalless draw in a game of few chances in which both defences dominated and chances were at a premium.

A crowd of 887 were at Hartsdown Park to see the Kent derby between Margate and another promoted outfit, Maidstone United. And the spoils went to Gate, whose Scott Kinch scored the only goal of the game three minutes before half-time.

On a Bank Holiday Monday full of local derby encounters, Wealdstone beat Enfield Town 4-1 at Grosvenor Vale. And the Stones had to come back from being a seventh minute Joe O`Brien goal down to win, thanks to Chris Moore on 42 minutes, a Chris Wild own goal a few minutes later, veteran Scott McGleish on 56 minutes and Tom Pett four minutes from time.

Thamesmead Town made the short trip over to Bromley to face Cray Wanderers and it was sixth time lucky for the Mead as they secured their first win of the season in a seven-goal thriller.

Mead started brightly and went ahead in the 14th minute through Lewis Tozer. Cray then came more into the game with shots and header off target, but they got level just before half-time when Ben Frempah picked up a ball and waltzed through the Mead defence to blast home.

However, the visitors went back up the other end and a defensive mistake allowed Micheal Power a sight of goal. He sent his shot into the corner to send the Mead into half-time 2-1 up.

In the 69th minute, Sean Roberts burst forward and laid the ball off to Ross Lover who produced a low driven shot which found the net. However, their two-goal cushion was cut five minutes later when Cray got a cross in from out wide and Tommy Whitnell headed past Rob Budd.

But the Mead went two clear again in the 78th minute when Daniel Ailey released Stuart Zanone and he raced clear to round the keeper and roll the ball home. In a thrilling encounter, Cray refused to lie down and cut the gap to one again with five minutes left, sub Jo Ogunbiyi getting clear to score. But the Mead saw the game out to secure a fine three points and lift themselves off the bottom of the table.

Canvey Island are also up and running after recording their first win of the campaign – a 1-0 victory over Bury Town at Ram Meadow. Spencer Bellotti scored the only goal after 18 minutes, and to make matters worse for the Blues, they had Adam Bailey-Dennis sent-off eight minutes from time.

There was another dismissal at Crown Meadow where Lowestoft Town won the derby against Leiston by a comfortable 3-0 margin. A crowd of 653 saw the visitors reduced to ten-man right on half-time when they had Jack Cawley sent-off.

Sub Michael Frew broke the deadlock by putting the Trawlerboys in front just past the hour-mark and then Bradley Woods-Garness doubled that lead on 74 minutes, with Rob Eagle making sure with a third just three minutes later.

Metropolitan Police beat Harrow Borough 2-0 at Imber Court, taking a 27th minute lead through a certain Tobi Alabi - you couldn't make it up could you - and then adding a second 15 minutes from time through Many Osei.

Luke Wanadio was East Thurrock United's hero at Colston Avenue against Carshalton Athletic. The Rocks trailed to a 19th minute Tommy Bradford effort for the hosts when Wanadio equalised in the 57th minute and then grabbed the winner with 10 minutes to play.

The Essex derby between two sides relegated from the Conference South last season, Billericay Town and AFC Hornchurch, finished all-square at 2-2.

Trailing at half-time to Ricky Sappleton's 34th minute strike, Hornchurch fell further behind seven minutes after the break through Javion Campbell. But a superb brace in five minutes from George Purcell just past the hour-mark restored parity.

Hendon and Wingate & Finchley also shared the holiday points at Earlsmead. If fans had left early they may well have missed both goals, with Leon Smith scoring the opener for the visitors four minutes from time, only for on-loan Lee Angol to equalise four minutes into stoppage time.

And the Sussex derby between Lewes and Bognor Regis Town also ended in a draw at the Dripping Pan. A crowd of 777 saw Jack Dixon put the Rooks ahead after just seven minutes. And they held that lead until 19 minutes from the end when Kane Wills levelled for the Rocks.
