Monday's Ryman Premier action review

Ryman League Premier Division

Maidstone United moved eight points clear at the top of the Ryman League's Premier Division table on Monday night but they had to be content with just one point at Mill Field against Grays Athletic, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Essex side came into the game in good form, protecting a nine-game unbeaten run under recently-appointed player-manager Mark Bentley and their point leaves them just two behind fifth-placed Enfield Town.

Bradley Tomlinson had an effort cleared off the line by the Stones` Craig Stone, while the visitors had the better of the second half, but neither could make the breakthrough.

A waterlogged Earlsmead pitch prevented second-placed Hendon from attempting to reduce the gap on leaders Maidstone by taking on struggling AFC Hornchurch.

The Greens have two games in hand on the Stones and trail by eight points but this latest postponement makes a difficult task in trying to overhaul the Kent outfit into a mammoth one given the amount of games they have to cram in between now and the end of the season.

Two sides hoping to mount a late top five challenge, Billericay Town and Kingstonian, met at New Lodge and a 2-0 win for the K`s lifted them to within four points of the play-off places.

And they had to play for an hour with ten-men following the dismissal of Malachi Hudson for a straight red card offence. But K`s were already two-up by then, courtesy of a Pelayo Pico Gomez brace after 12 and 21 minutes. And they held firm to record a victory that surely means Billericay will miss out on a play-off place this season.
