Monthly awardwinners announced

By Peter Butcher

THE Ryman League’s monthly awards for October have been announced today, with the six prizes going to six different clubs.

The Macron Manager of the Month awards go to the boss of the team, with the best league record during the month and in the Premier it is Wealdstone’s long-serving Gordon Bartlett.

The Stones won three and drew one of their four league matches, including comebacks from 2-0 down to beat Kingstonian and Hampton, both of whom were topping the table at the time of the fixture.

Maldon manager Terry Spillane (pictured by Gavin Ellis) takes the Ryman North award. His side won all five of their league games in October and are now two points clear at the top of the table.

In Ryman South the award goes to Maidstone’s Jay Saunders, another manager whose team climbed to the top of the table during the month. Maidstone won four matches and drew one, with their three home games at the Gallagher Stadium attracting a total of more than 5,000 spectators.

The Macron Team Performance Award is given to a club in each division for a single noteworthy achievement.

The Ryman Premier prize goes to Harrow Borough, who were still seeking their first away point of the season, after four successive defeats on the road, when they travelled to Bury Town on October 13. An early goal by Nicolai Tararov earned Harrow a 1-0 victory which ended Bury’s unbeaten home record.

The top performance in Ryman North was judged to be Brentwood Town’s 3-0 victory at Premier side Lewes in an FA Trophy replay this week. Brentwood held the lead three times in the first match before being held to a 3-3 draw but recovered from the disappointment to chalk up a convincing win at the second attempt thanks to a pair of Greg Cohen penalties and a clincher from Alex Read, who had scored a hat-trick in the drawn game.

The Ryman South vote went to Tooting & Mitcham United, who were at the foot of the table before they won 2-1 at Ramsgate on October 20. Carl Wilson-Denis replied to Ian Pulman’s early goal for the home side and Sol Pinnock hit a late winner. It was not enough to lift Tooting off the bottom, though they have since climbed to 18th place.

Where next?

Beavers waste no time RYMAN Premier leaders Hampton were quickly into their stride at East Thurrock yesterday (Saturday).
Brentwood pull off Trophy upset THERE was no shortage of action in Tuesday’s FA Trophy replays but only one upset. That was at Lewes, where the Premier side were beaten 3-0 by Brentwood, 17th in Ryman North.
