New coach needed after joint boss departs

By David Watters

South Park are looking for a new coach to work with manager Malcolm Porter after joint boss Dave Argent stood down at the Ryman South club.

Former assistant manager Porter and first team coach Argent led The Sparks into the new Ryman South campaign after the pair were named as the successors to Joe McElligott this summer.

After taking over as director of football after seven years at the helm and guiding the Surrey club into the Ryman League via two promotions, McElligott has set a deadline of Monday 28 September for potential candidates to contact the club with their footballing CVs.

In a statement released on Tuesday night announcing the departure of one half of their management team, McElligott said: “Following the resignation of David Argent for personal reasons, Malcolm Porter will continue as first team manager and we are looking to appoint a first team coach with Ryman experience who will focus on player and team development."

Porter faces the toughest of tests in his first league game in sole charge, a trip to the Fullicks Stadium on Saturday to take on league leaders Folkestone Invicta. Before that he'll hope to guide the club to victory over Leatherhead on Wednesday night in their delayed FA Cup First Qualifying Round Replay.
