No joy in Sunday ties

By Peter Butcher

Heybridge were edged out 3-2 at Conference side Hayes & Yeading in Sunday's FA Cup tie at Woking.

Two goals in seven first-half minutes by Kudus Oyenuga, the second a penalty, proved decisive. Ben Newson pulled one back in the 54th minute and Hayes then had the experienced Mark Bentley sent off. But Jerome Anderson made it 3-1 in the 82nd minute and Michael Cheek’s reply was too late to save the day.

Eastbourne Town were beaten 5-1 at Slough, having held their own for much of the first half. Adam Logie’s 15th-minute goal was all that separated the sides until four minutes before half-time, when Stuart Swift doubled the lead. Then Danny Burnell made it 3-0 before the break, leaving the visitors a daunting task.

Ethan Strevett reduced the arrears on 65 minutes but Dave Deeney restored the three-goal margin with a penalty two minutes later and wrapped it up with another penalty deep into added time.
