Number two succeeds Hilton

8 months ago By David Watters

Former Clacton boss David Coyle has taken the helm at Wroxham until the end of the 2016-17 Ryman North campaign after Damian Hilton stood down as Yachtsmen manager.

Appointed in February 2016 as the successor to Stewart Larter, Hilton resigned on Monday with his side second bottom and eight points from safety after their 4-0 reverse at Trafford Park on Saturday at hands of Waltham Abbey.

Hilton left Norwich United to re-join the Yachtsmen where he made over 400 appearances as player and manager. Before switching, he guided Planters to the Eastern Counties Premier Division title in 2015.

Norwich-based Coyle - who succeeded Gavin Lemmon as Hilton's number last summer after stepping down at the Seasiders - takes charge for the first time on Tuesday night when Wroxham travel to King's Lynn Town in the quarter-finals of the Norfolk Senior Cup Quarter Final tie. After that he'll embark on a trip to Phoenix Sports in Ryman North with his new charges on Saturday.

The Yachtsmen thanked Hilton for his hard work and contribution to the Norfolk club in a statement announcing his departure and wishing him well for the future.

The club said: “The club would like to thank Damian for his hard work and contribution this season which has been much appreciated by all connected with the club. Chairman Kevin Attree would additionally like to take this opportunity to wish Damian all the best for the future.

“David Coyle will assume the position of first team manager until the end of the season and has the full support of the club behind him. Assisting David, Kaine Challen will be stepping up from the reserve management team."
