Bognor Regis Town’s general manager Jack Pearce has been paying tribute to Portsmouth’s fans, players and officials after their visit to Nyewood Lane.

Pearce, the former Rocks player and manager, thanked Pompey for their "enormous" gesture after more than 2,500 fans turned out at the Ryman League ground last Saturday to see the annual pre-season friendly between the clubs.

While the Ryman Premier side lost 6-1 to their League Two neighbours in front of the bumper crowd, Pearce was delighted with the precious revenue the club had banked from the gate in the run-up to the kick-off of the new season on Saturday 9 August.

Pearce said: "The difference this game makes to a club at our level is enormous. We are very thankful to the board of directors at Pompey for choosing to visit our club.

"I’m sure that they get inundated with requests from teams who want to play them because of their travelling support. The nice part was we had a wonderful turn out – mainly from Pompey fans – which was good."

In the interview with www.portsmouth.co.uk he added: "The police were absolutely delighted with the way the day went. From a business and PR perspective, it was a wonderful occasion."
