Ramblers secretary has sympathy for Spillane!

Burnham Ramblers

When Burnham Ramblers did the double over Thamesmead Town in Ryman North last week, at least one official at Leslie Fields had some sympathy for their opposing manager Terry Spillane.

The Ramblers hadn't won since the end of October before their 2-1 away win at Bayliss Avenue on Saturday 21 February and the Essex club's secretary Shaun Pugh reckons Spillane, pictured, must be starting to hate the sight of them having failed to register a single win against them in seven attempts since their promotion to the Ryman League while managing Maldon & Tiptree and now his current club.

Ironically, their last victory also came against the Mead and Pugh, who counts Spillane as a friend, said: "We have not lost once. We have had two games abandoned through floodlight failure and at half time through torrential rain.

"Last season we beat Maldon & Tiptree in the League Cup 4-3 and drew in the League 4–4 and 1–1 and this year we beat Maldon & Tiptree in the League 2–1 and now Thamesmead Town 2–1 last Saturday.

"I bet Terry hates the site of us but I must say I get on really well with him. We go way back to his days in the Essex Senior League when he was manager of Stansted and I wish him all the best at Thamesmead Town."
