Referee sends thanks after second collapse

Grateful referee Ashley Slaughter has sent his thanks to Redhill and Corinthian-Casuals for coming to his aid after he was taken ill during last Saturday’s Ryman South clash at Kiln Brow.

The official wrote to the Ryman League this week to hail the clubs and ask for his thanks to be passed on to their players and officials after collapsing on the pitch 17 minutes from the end of the game.

The game was held up for around half an hour as paramedics arrived on the scene and thankfully he was already starting to recover by the time he was taken away. Corinthinan-Casuals went on to win the match 3-2 after a qualified official and member of Redhill’s staff came forward to run the line.

The recovering official made headlines in March 2012 when he was stung by bee and went into an allergic shock after collapsing on the pitch, pictured, during a Ryman South fixture between Whyteleafe and Hythe Town.

Referring to his previous mishap in his email to Ryman League Secretary Kellie Discipline, the referee wrote: "Hi Kellie, I just wanted to email the league to express my thanks to both Redhill and Corinthian-Causals for their support during the match on 6th September.

"As you may be aware I was taken ill (again!) and both clubs concern, support and care was first class. We are good at complaining when things do not go right so I thought I would buck the trend and ask the league to contact both clubs on my behalf as they are a credit to the league.

"Since the incident both clubs have contacted me; I have had contact with some of their players via Twitter and other social media which has been overwhelming. If you would be so kind as to pass this on and advise your league members of this I would be very grateful."
