Riza rewarded with permanent post

Cheshunt

Omer Riza takes charge of Cheshunt on Saturday for the first time as Ryman North club's permanent new manager.

The former Arsenal and Trabzonspor striker, pictured, was appointed as caretaker at the end of August following the departure of Tony Faulkner.

Since taking the hot-seat at Theobalds Lane, the 34-year-old has lost only three of his 11 games as caretaker, taking the Ambers up to 15th spot in the Ryman North table. Riza, who originally joined the Ambers as Faulkner’s assistant manager in August, has also been leading from the front, netting 12 goals in 12 games.

Following his appointment on Friday, he's now hoping to continue that run when Cheshunt host Needham Market at the weekend. Ambers Chairman Dean Williamson is backing the club's new manager to be a success after seeing the results of his work over the last two months.

Williamson said: "I’ve been really impressed with the professionalism that Omer has brought to the club. The players enjoy working with him and his hard work is evident in our improved performances."

"Omer is young and hungry and shares the same ambition as the board. He has been working extremely hard and I wish him a long and successful reign at the club."
