Robins and Blues find out their Trophy future

By Ian Townsend

FA Trophy Second Round Draw made earlier today

The draw for the Second Round of the FA Trophy was made this afternoon, and it served up exciting ties for both of our remaining sides, Wingate & Finchley and Carshalton Athletic.

The Robins reward for victory over Dorking Wanderers on Saturday is another home draw, and it will be against either Salisbury or Braintree Town, who play their tie tomorrow night after the original match was postponed on Saturday. Either will be a tough test, but Carshalton won't be afraid of either side. Braintree are two tiers higher, but are bottom of the National League with only three victories all season, whilst Salisbury are in third place in Evo-Stik Southern Premier South, two points clear of Metropolitan Police, three clear of Hendon and four ahead of Harrow Borough. Steve Claridge's men defeated Merstham in the Second Qualifying Round last month.

Wingate & Finchley have been all over the internet over the last few days, as their opponents Dulwich Hamlet were celebrated for some excellent last-ditch defending. What shouldn't be forgotten, however, is that if the National League South side had been unable to keep the ball out of the net at that point, they'd have simply lost three-nil instead of two-nil! The Blues reward for that victory is a trip to Hemel Hempstead Town, who sit in eighth place in National League South and defeated Lewes in a replay in the final qualifying round of the same competition. The Tudors got to the Second Round by defeating Eastleigh on Saturday.

Matches will be played on January 12th, with winners receiving £7000.
