Defender Steve Robinson is among six candidates shortlisted by Crawley Down Gatwick for their vacant manager’s job.

Robinson, pictured, took over as caretaker manager two weeks ago after former manager Simon Wormull resigned from the Ryman South’s Anvils for personal reasons.

Chairman Brian Suckling has confirmed that Robinson, who followed Wormull to the club from Lewes in the summer, had made the shortlist from 15 applications given serious consideration for the hot-seat at The Havens Sportsfield.

Robinson, 37, wants to make sure his first steps into management are made permanent. According to the club’s Chairman, he's made a good impression so far ahead of his first game in charge away to Horsham on Saturday.

Suckling told thisisussussex.co.uk said: "We are hoping to make an appointment as quickly as possible. We've got the continuity we wanted with Robbo stepping in, it's just a shame we haven't had a game for a couple of weeks because it would have been good to see how the lads would've reacted on the pitch.

"I'm still getting to know Robbo, he only joined us in the summer, but how we have worked together over the last couple of weeks has been refreshing. He has a deep knowledge of football at this level and his playing credentials speak volumes; he has played in good championship-winning teams and that shows through."
