Rocks make local hospital less of a hard place

Bognor Regis Town- and a friendly local bear- bring Christmas cheer to sick children

Christmas and hospital are two words that don't fit well together. But for those who have to be a patient at Christmas, despite the best efforts of our marvellous NHS staff, festive cheer can be in short supply- which is why Jack Pearce and his Rocks last night tried to make St Richard's Hospital less of a hard place for the children currently being treated there.

Accompanied by mascot Rocky bear- because who doesn't want a hug from a teddy bear at Christmas, even if it's six feet tall and wearing football boots- the entire first team squad of Bognor Regis Town spent the evening delivering seasonal delight, and lots of presents, to the sick children of their local area. This was a visit organised by Supporters Club Chair Ian Guppy, in conjunction with former Bognor defender John Price and local charity Love Your Hospital- you can find out more about their work here. Speaking shortly after the visit, Ian couldn't hide his delight.

'As Chairman of the supporters club I couldn't be prouder. To have Jack, Robbie and the whole first team squad turn out for an idea that came about just a few months ago is stunning. It was fantastic to see that idea become reality. I'd like to thank everyone that came; it was incredibly heartwarming to be able to put smiles on some of the poorly children's faces. It's a memory that will last a long time.'

Ian and the Rocks have other plans to get out and spread green and white positivity around their local community, so we're sure we'll be bringing you more stories like this soon. But in the meantime, they'll be off to Worthing tomorrow- and on that occasion they won't want to be giving any gifts whatsoever!
