Rooks on the rise!

Lewes head back to the Bostik Premier Division after two years away

Lewes became the first of our clubs to gain promotion this season, their place in next season's Bostik Premier Division confirmed by victory over Sussex rivals Horsham at the Dripping Pan last night.

Following Greenwich Borough's defeat to Thamesmead Town on Tuesday night the Rooks needed just three points, and striker Jonte Smith gave them the best possible start after only four minutes, turning home a cross from Harry Reed to give them the lead. It was two on the quarter hour mark, a volley from Gus Sow making things rather more comfortable, but a Dean Bown goal for the Hornets meant more bitten fingernails for the home fans.

Harry Reed was involved once more four minutes before the break, delighting most of the 764 in attendance as he followed up a Smith shot to stroke the ball home, and when Frankie Chappell made it 4-1 with eleven minutes remaining it was time for the party to start. A Shane Cojocarel consolation three minutes from time made it 4-2, but spirits were not dampened and the Rooks were able to celebrate. Carshalton Athletic can join the Rooks in the Premier Division with victory over Whyteleafe on Saturday.

Elsewhere in the South Division, Hythe Town leapt into the final playoff spot with victory over Sittingbourne. They had to come from behind to do it, Fabrice Blewordah putting the Brickies ahead four minutes after the break, but goals from Chris Kinnear, Mitchell Chapman and Zak Ansah put them in the driving seat despite a late consolation from Kane Rowland. Walton Casuals drop to seventh, two points behind Hythe with a game in hand.

There was also a critical game in the North Division, as bottom played second bottom at Ship Lane. It was bottom side Romford who took the honours and the plaudits, two goals from Carlos Djalo Oso and a third from Ernest Okoh giving them a comprehensive victory over Norwich United, moving them level on points with the Planters but behind on goal difference.

Our congratulations to all at the Dripping Pan! It'll be good to see you back in the Premier Division next season!
