Ryman South play-offs semi-finals action review

Ryman League South Division

The Ryman League Division One South play-off final will be between Folkestone Invicta and Merstham following Tuesday night`s semi-finals, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Invicta, who finished second in the regular season, entertained fifth-placed Whyteleafe at the Fullicks Stadium in front of a crowd of 788.

And they went ahead three minutes before half-time, courtesy of a header from Ian Draycott - his 43rd goal of a fantastic season for the striker.

Whyteleafe equalised 10 minutes after the break through veteran Roscoe D'Sane but neither side could find a second in normal time. The winning goal came just three minutes into overtime when Jordan Wright`s cross was put past his own keeper by the unfortunate Jason Thompson.

The other semi-final also took place in Kent where Faversham Town hosted Merstham in front of 628 at the Shepherd Neame Stadium.

The hosts finished four points ahead of fourth-placed Merstham but Faversham had ended the regular campaign as the division`s top scorers with 111 goals.

However, despite the visitors also notching 107 from their forty-six league games, neither could find the net in 120 minutes of this tie, so it was to penalties to decide who went through to the final.

The first penalty was missed by Faversham, and that proved decisive as the Moatsiders` triumphed 5-4.
