Samba Sports Golden Gloves Awards- December 2018

By Ian Townsend

Which defences made opposition forwards quiver in fear during December? Find out here!

Who had the meanest defence in December?

Samba Sports are the UK's leading manufacturer of goals- and you can visit their website here. What you'll find, however, is that they are about much more than just the provision of goals! From balls to gloves, from corner flags to water bottles, from coaching aids to captains armbands, if you need it for your club the chances are that Samba will have it (note: they can't supply you with a free-scoring centre forward). They can ever provide you with new dugouts if the old ones are letting in the rain!

Thanks to Samba for their support- and here are our December winners:

Premier Division

With win after win after win Haringey Borough spent December soaring to the top of the table, and a large part of their success was the meanness of their defence. Keeper Valery Pajetet played in seven league matches and conceded only four goals- and credit to Merstham, for they scored as many as the six sides before them put together! Four clean sheets, two 3-1 wins, and a 2-2 draw ensures that Valery deserves the accolades he received from the Coles Park Bell End.

North Division

If we’d asked you in November who would have the meanest defence in the North Division during the following month, and you’d answered Witham Town, we’d have thought that James Beardwell had been offering you bribes! But what a turnaround Town have had in December, climbing up the league with four victories and a draw and conceding only one solitary goal. Luca Collins has been ever-present between the sticks, and is a deserved recipient of our December prize.

South Central Division

December has demonstrated that almost everyone in the South Central Division is capable of beating just about everyone else, which is perhaps why there are only four points separating the top five sides, and only ten points between second and twelfth. The side with the best defensive record during the month might surprise you, but our December award goes to Chalfont St Peter, where keeper Carl Dennison should take a bow!

South East Division

Ashford United had a magnificent December, picking up ten points from twelve and conceding only two goals. With Sam Mott between the sticks perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised, and the keeper, who was a big part of the best defence in the league last season at AFC Hornchurch, has demonstrated that his move to the South East has cost him none of his ability. Congratulations Sam!
