Saturday's Premier Division action review

Ryman League Premier Division

Kent rivals Maidstone United and Margate made it three wins from the opening three matches in the Ryman Premier on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Stones were involved in a thriller at Nyewood Lane against a Bognor Regis Town side who had yet to pick up a point.

Darren Wheeler gave the Rocks a 27th minute lead that Alex Brown quickly canelled out two minutes later. Steve Watt then gave the visitors the lead five minutes before half-time, only for Ben Johnson`s penalty to restore parity eight minutes after the break.

Frannie Collin just past the hour-mark and then Jay May on 67 minutes gave the Stones a 4-2 advantage although Alex Parsons made them sweat when he pulled a third back for the Rocks in the final minute of normal time.

Margate beat Harrow Borough 2-1 at Earlsmead to make it three from three.

Charlie Allen`s penalty after 32 minutes gave Terry Brown`s side the lead that Simeon Akinola cancelled out three minutes after half-time. But a Michael Peacock own goal under pressure with 13 minutes to go won it for Gate.

Apart from Bognor, newly-promoted VCD Athletic and, perhaps surprisingly, Hampton & Richmond Borough, are also yet to taste victory in 2014-15.

The Vickers were beaten 3-1 at home by Hendon, whose Kezie Ibe broke the deadlock right on half-time.

Sam Murphy doubled the Greens` lead on 65 minutes and, after Ahmed Deen had reduced the deficit in the 82nd minute, sub Aaron Morgan added Hendon`s third in time added on.

The Beavers went down to a 4-2 defeat at the Beveree to newly-promoted Witham Town despite it starting well enough for the home side when Charlie Moone put them in front from the spot after 34 minutes.

Lewis Godbold equalised for Garry Kimble`s side three minutes after half-time, only for Ben Harris to restore the Beavers` lead five minutes later. That lead lasted barely two minutes as Tom Wraight pulled the Essex side back on terms and the same player eventually gave them the lead for the first time with eight minutes to go – Leon Antoine making sure with a fourth in stoppage time.

Enfield Town earned their first point of the new campaign when they shared a 1-1 draw at Ram Meadow with Bury Town.

It looked as though Cory Whitely`s 10th minute opener was going to be enough for George Borg`s side until Steve Holder popped up with the Blues` leveller six minutes from time.

Grays Athletic were another to finally break their duck as they too shared the spoils at Aveley.

Kiernan Hughes-Mason gave newly-promoted Leatherhead an early 8th minute lead that Freddie Ladapo cancelled out from the spot right on the half-time whistle. But neither side was able to trouble the scorer again.

Peacehaven & Telscombe, who came up with the Tanners, lost for the first time when Canvey Island left Sussex with the point, courtesy of John Curran`s 56th minute goal.

Fancied Dulwich Hamlet inflicted a first defeat on Leiston at Victory Road, Dean McDonald giving the Hamlet a great start with a goal inside the opening two minutes. And Ashley Carew made sure the points went to the away side when he converted a 69th minute spot-kick.

Relegated Tonbridge Angels are not finding it easy as they went down to a 2-1 defeat at Imber Court to Metropolitan Police.

Bradley Hudson-Odoi gave the Met the lead on the half-hour mark only for Billy Medlock to pull the Angels back non level terms on the hour. Nine minutes later came Charlie Collins` goal which proved to be the winner for Jim Cooper`s side.

A goal from Tommy Kavanagh with 15 minutes remaining earned Kingstonian all three points at Kingsmeadow against AFC Hornchurch and keep the K`s unbeaten.

Billericay Town grabbed a 2-0 win at the Dripping Pan against Lewes, who fell behind after just 8 minutes to a Ricky Sappleton effort. Callum Dunne doubled the Essex side`s lead 10 minutes later and that`s how the scoreline remained.

The other Premier Division game saw East Thurrock United stay unbeaten but they had to be content with one point from a goalless draw at home to Wingate & Finchley.
