Saturday's Ryman North action review

By David Watters

Cray Wanderers stretched their lead at the top of the Ryman North table on Saturday to six points thanks to 2-0 win over Cheshunt at Hayes Lane, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The visiting Ambers were looking to put pressure on the top five but fell behind inside the opening five minutes when Ben Hunt gave the Wands the lead. The leaders then doubled their advantage three minutes into the second half through half-time substitute Mark Frieter.

AFC Hornchurch are second but had to be content with just one point from their visit to Brightlingsea Regent.

Regent took the lead on 15 minutes when Phil Kelly lobbed the Urchins` keeper. But on the 90 minute-mark, Charlie Dove hit an equaliser for Hornchurch to snatch a point from the game.

AFC Sudbury pulled level on points with the Urchins after winning 2-1 at Trafford Park against Wroxham.

Joey Maybanks gave the visitors a 26th minute lead that Liam Wales doubled 13 minutes later. Nathan Stone reduced the arrears nine minutes into the second period but Sudbury held on for the points.

Thurrock and Bury Town complete the top five picture and both recorded victories on Saturday.

Mark Stimson`s Thurrock inflicted a 3-1 defeat on struggling neighbours Redbridge at Ship Lane with goals from Lewis Spence after 36 minutes and a Joe Christou brace in the final six minutes – all after Charlie Parish had given the visitors an early third minute lead.

Bury were 1-0 winners at second-bottom Waltham Abbey – Cemal Ramadan`s goal right on half-time eventually proving enough for the Blues at Capershotts.

Tilbury are sixth, three points behind Bury after beating Harlow Town 3-1 at Chadfields where Danny Glozier`s 34th minute penalty split the teams at half-time.

Matt Game added a second for the Dockers on 65 minutes – less than a minute after Ales Read had pulled the visitors back on level terms. Kurt Smith made sure with a third for Tilbury in the final minute.

Maldon & Tiptree secured a 3-0 victory against Soham Town Rangers at the Wallace Binder Group Stadium.

New loan signing from Colchester, Charley Edge, gave the Jammers the lead on 16 minutes from 25 yards. Edge made it 2-0 after 61 minutes and Darren McQueen wrapped the match up with a third goal on 77 minutes.

Haringey Borough made it successive league wins to move out of the drop zone, winning an early relegation `six-pointer` against Heybridge Swifts courtesy of a goal on the hour-mark from Jerome Martelli.

Dereham Town secured a good 3-0 win at home against Thamesmead Town, taking a 21st minute lead through Rhys Logan and adding a second 10 minutes before half-time from Fraser Blake-Tracy. Luke Tuttle`s 83rd minute penalty wrapped up the home success.

Witham Town surrendered a three-goal lead to be held to a draw against visiting Romford.

Witham took the lead through Michael Osei on 12 minutes. The home side doubled their advantage when Nathan Koranteng made it 2-0 on 41 minutes. It got better for Witham when Lee Townrow made it 3-0 just 3 minutes later.

After the break, George Tubey pulled a goal back for the visitors on 69 minutes. And Romford gave themselves a chance when Lee Weemes made it 2-3 on 80 minutes. The visitors stormed back to snatch a share of the spoils with a goal from Jake Giddings on 90 minutes.

And the other game on Saturday between Phoenix Sports and Great Wakering Rovers also ended 3-3.

But this time the visitors left it even later to pull level! Billy Johnson gave Rovers an eighth minute lead that Aden Ramadan cancelled out just two minutes later.

Steve Springett then gave Sports the lead in the 24th minute and they extended that through Ricky Freeman a couple of minutes before the break.

A defensive slip allowed Jake Gordon to pull the visitors back into the game eight minutes into the second half but it wasn’t until the fourth minute of injury-time at the end of the game that Charlie Barlow grabbed Rovers` leveller.
