Saturday's Ryman North action review

By David Watters

It was top versus bottom in the Ryman North on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Despite the whopping difference between their respective points` tally at kick-off, leaders AFC Sudbury could only manage a penalty winner 12 minutes from time from Craig Parker – his 25th goal of the season to date – to see off basement outfit Barkingside at the Wardale Williams Stadium.

Second-placed Harlow Town helped push Thurrock out of the top five with a 4-1 Arena victory.

And that despite going behind to a ninth minute Ronnie Winn goal. A Remi Sutton own goal immediately after the break pulled the Hawks level and then Junior Dadson on 56 minutes, Marion Noto two minutes later and Alex Read on the hour-mark won it for the hosts.

Third-placed AFC Hornchurch damaged hosts` Tilbury`s top five hopes with a 1-0 win at Chadfields, courtesy of a 74th minute goal from sub Ricky Freeman.

Cheshunt are fourth after beating lowly Heybridge Swifts 4-2 at Theobalds Lane, despite finishing up with ten-men.

Swifts took the lead on 20 minutes through Jack Barham. But the lead only lasted eight minutes as Jason Hallett equalised. Adam Bolle then put the home side in front on 39 minutes.

Swifts went further behind on 50 minutes when Hallett got his second of the match to make it 3-1. Heybridge didn’t let their heads drop and Tyrone Scarlett pulled a goal back on the hour-mark before Liam Hope restored Cheshunt’s two-goal advantage on 71 minutes.

Cray Wanderers are on a run f one win in seven after losing 1-0 at Hayes Lane against Dereham Town, whose Luke Tuttle was on target on 31 minutes.

Maldon & Tiptree left it late to grab the bragging rights against visiting play-off chasers Brightlingsea Regent.

The Jammers took the lead and the win with a great effort, Billy Roast firing in a bicycle kick at the far post on 85 minutes.

Bury Town shared a 3-3 draw at Ship Lane against hosts Romford, who equalised two minutes into stoppage time.

Nick Ingram gave the visitors a 23rd minute lead that Josh Mayhew doubled on 41 minutes. Three minutes later the Boro were back in the game through Nick Reynolds and then Ryan Boswell equalised on the hour-mark from the spot.

Ingram`s second on 74 minutes looked to be the winner until Matt Frew popped up with Boro`s late leveller.

Witham Town fell to a heavy 5-0 defeat against visiting Aveley.

Aveley took the lead after just four minutes through Alex Teniola. Five minutes after the break, Aveley increased their lead when Liam Nash beat the Witham defence and fired home on the near post.

Substitute David Fallah made an instant impact when he came on to pitch, taking just 40 seconds to put Aveley 3-0 up as he fired into the bottom corner on 66 minutes.

Aveley then took a 4-0 lead when Billy Coyne crossed to the back post and Arian Retkoceri tapped the ball into the bottom corner on 77 minutes. It got worse for Witham when, three minutes later, Fallah headed home his second to make it a nap hand.

Second-bottom Redbridge were beaten 4-1 at Julius Martin Lane against Soham Town Rangers.

Ross Paterson gave the hosts a 19th minute lead that Reside Coxi Sebastfao cancelled out on the hour-mark. Five minutes later Salim Relizani restored Soham`s lead from the spot and then goals in the final seven minutes from Will Lawton and Ryan Sharman added gloss to the scoreline.

Third-bottom Wroxham`s new manager Damian Hilton saw his side move level on points with fourth-bottom Waltham Abbey, who lost at Great Wakering Rovers, after a 1-0 home win over Thamesmead Town.

Seamus Kelleher scored the all-important Yachtsmen goal five minutes after the break.

Great Wakering held on with ten-men to edge out Waltham Abbey 3-2 at home.

In-form Christian Assombalonga gave the Abbots a third minute lead that Jay Nash cancelled out three minutes later. The goals from Jake Gordon on 52 minutes and Dan Gilchrist 10 minutes later pulled Rovers clear.

Despite defender Max Kent being dismissed near the end for preventing a goalscoring opportunity and Assombalonga netting his second from the spot, Rovers just about held on.

Haringey Borough – bottom not so long ago – pulled four points clear of the drop zone after winning 3-0 at Phoenix Sports with a hat-trick from Antony MacDonald in the sixth, 45th and 76th minutes.
