Saturday's Ryman Premier action review

Ryman League Premier Division

Kingstonian and Grays Athletic are now the only teams in the Ryman Premier with perfect starts to the new campaign with three wins from three outings, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Kingstonian earned maximum points again on Saturday with a 3-0 win at Kingsmeadow over East Thurrock United. Ryan Moss slotted home the opening goal of the game in the 19th minute - a lead that was nearly extended when Dee Okojie struck the angle of the goal and Marcus Moody's rebound strike was subsequently disallowed for offside.

The K's did grab a second midway through the second half, this time Moss bundled the ball in from close range. A third followed three minutes later as Andre McCollin's first involvement as a substitute was to emphatically shoot past Darren Behcet in the East Thurrock goal.

The goals ended there, but a fourth was nearly added in the closing stages as Moss's lob over Behcet rolled wide of the goal and McCollin's desperately lunge could only catch the outside of the post.

Grays Athletic saw off Enfield Town 2-0 at the New Rec, although the newly-promoted side had to withstand a good deal of pressure from the visitors. Jared Small broke the deadlock to give the Essex hosts a 57th minute lead that was quickly doubled when Jack West scored just three minutes later.

At the opposite end of the table, Ryan Crisp's goal 15 minutes from time at Colston Avenue for Leiston condemned Carshalton Athletic to a third straight defeat.

Canvey Island are also pointless after their opening three games. A great strike from Lewes' Jack Dixon just five minutes into Saturday's clash at the Dripping Pan earned the Rooks victory. To add to the Islanders' misery they had Rob Bartley dismissed 10 minutes into the second half.

Promoted Thamesmead Town are still without a Premier point too. They travelled over to Billericay Town and suffered a blow before kick-off when goalkeeper Rob Budd injured his shoulder and Calum MaGeeghan had to stand in.

Mead did a great job of protecting him in the first half and looked a threat going forward. And nine minutes in they grabbed their first goal of the season when Jon Main looped a shot over the Billericay keeper and into the net. Mead increased their lead in the 29th minute when a long throw caused problems and the ball broke to Danny Phillips. His shot looped in off the underside of the bar.

Mead hit the bar in the 41st minute when a deep cross was volleyed against the bar by Ross Lover before Billericay pulled a goal back in the 59th minute when a deep cross was headed home by Dave Collis.

The equaliser arrived in the 75th minute when a long throw broke to Glenn Poole and he shot past Callum McGeeghan. Billericay then had an effort bounce of the bar and down on to the line before they grabbed their winner eight minutes from time, substitute Javlon Campbell turning a low cross into the net.

Fancied Hampton & Richmond Borough earned a second point after a goalless draw at Ram Meadow against Bury Town. It was the same scoreline at Imber Court between Metropolitan Police and promoted Dulwich Hamlet.

However, there was a goal fest at Earlsmead where newly-promoted Maidstone United beat hosts Hendon 5-3. Lee Angol put the Greens in front after 16 minutes, only for Frannie Collin to equalise six minutes later.

Dave Diedhiou restored Hendon's lead on 26 minutes, but it was the Stones who went into half-time in front after goals from Collin again on 35 minutes and Paul Booth three minutes later. Alex Brown pushed the Kent outfit 4-2 up in the 58th minute and then much-travelled Jefferson Louis reduced the arrears to just one on 65 minutes. But seconds later Brown netted his second of the game to make it 5-3.

There was just one less goal at the Courage Stadium where Cray Wanderers hosted relegated AFC Hornchurch. However, the home side only managed one of the seven! Carl Rook put the Urchins in front after 12 minutes and it was virtually all over by the break as Ricky Hayles, Elliott Styles and George Purcell added further goals for the Essex visitors.

Chris Bourne made it nap for the Urchins nine minutes after the interval, but Cray did manage a consolation when Leigh Bremner – celebrating his 300th game for the club – scored just past the hour-mark. But Purcell restored Hornchurch's five-goal cushion a couple of minutes later and Bremner missed a penalty 20 minutes from time to complete a miserable day for him and his team-mates.

Margate had a great start at Hartsdown Park when Charles Ademeno put them in front inside the opening minute against Harrow Borough.

The home side's striker Phil Walsh inadvertently headed Boro level after 17 minutes, and it got worse for Gate when, on 35 minutes, they had Ryan Dolby shown a straight red card for bringing down Simeon Akinola. But it was the ten-men who went on to win the game, thanks to goals from Walsh, this time at the correct end on 52 minutes, and Zac Attwood 14 minutes from time.

Bognor Regis Town made the long journey up and across country to Lowestoft Town and came away disappointed as the Trawlerboys triumphed 2-0. Goals at either end of the game from Jack Ainsley on four minutes and Danny Cunningham, who scored seconds after coming on as a late, late substitute.
