Saturday's Ryman Premier action review

Billericay Town maintained their recent improved form in the Ryman Premier by beating ten-man Enfield Town 2-1 at the Queen Elizabeth II Stadium on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

A depleted fixture list due to the FA Cup saw only four league games, but the Blues managed to move into eighth place as a result of the victory.

Enfield started well and took a 20th minute lead when Mark Kirby fired past visiting `keeper Billy Lumley following a long through ball. The turning point in the match came in the 65th minute when Enfield's Joe Stevens was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Isaac Layne in the box and Glenn Poole converted the resultant spot-kick. It looked as though it was going to be a point apiece until six minutes from time when Junior Luke grabbed `Ricay`s headed winner.

Recent signing Jake Reed made himself an instant crowd favourite at Lowestoft Town after his four-goal salvo helped down lowly Carshalton Athletic at Crown Meadow. Reed, 22, who was released by League Two side Dagenham & Redbridge recently, notched all his goals in the opening 25 minutes. Lee Smith also found the net a minute before the break as the Trawlerboys went into the break 5-0 up. The second period proved to be something of an anti-climax, although the home side continued to dominate without finding the net again.

Bury Town, fresh from a 4-0 drubbing of Lowestoft Town in a Suffolk Senior Cup tie in midweek, continued their good form with a 2-1 success at Hartsdown Park against Margate. The visitors were late getting to the ground because of traffic, but Shane Tolley showed there was little bus fatigue as he gave the Blues the lead almost straight from the kick-off.

Margate gradually recovered and equalised in the 10th minute through Jack Sammoutis. But the winner for Bury came after 67 minutes when Patrick Jordan latched on to a loose ball in the box to fire past player boss Craig Holloway.

Metropolitan Police manager Jim Cooper must have been relieved to hear the final whistle blow as his side once again failed to convert chances into goals throughout their game at Imber Court against Leiston, but managed to edge it 2-1. New signing Tyrone Pink had an immediate impact after just four minutes when he cut inside the full-back and clipped a great cross to the far post where it was powerfully met by Ryan James with an unstoppable header to put the Met ahead.

The key moment in the game came when Danny Cunningham – on as an early seventh minute substitute - picked up his second yellow card for a rash challenge on Howard Newton taking Leiston down to ten-men after just 23 minutes. But it was the Suffolk side who scored the next goal, Leon Ottley-Gooch equalising with seven minutes of the first half to go. And it looked as though a well-organised Leiston side were going to hang on for a point until five minutes from time when much-travelled striker Allan Tait popped up with the winner, having come off the bench on the hour-mark.
