Ryman League Premier Division

Kent duo Maidstone United and Margate continue to dominate the Ryman Premier after the latest round of matches, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Both won again on Saturday to leave the Stones five points clear of Gate, who possess a game in hand.

Maidstone beat Lewes 2-0 at the Dripping Pan with goals from Alex Flisher just past the hour-mark and then sub Michael Phillips five minutes from time.

Margate saw off Canvey Island 4-2 at Hartsdown Park in front of a crowd of 705. New loan signing from Dover Athletic, Barry Cogan, netted a 22nd minute opener on his debut and Zac Attwood then bagged a quickfire brace on 24 and 31 minutes to take Gate 3-0 clear.

Tambeson Eyong reduced the arrears 8 minutes into the second half, but Charlie Allen restored Margate`s three-goal cushion just past the hour-mark, rendering Kevin Dobinson`s second for the Gulls in injury-time as just a consolation.

Dulwich Hamlet are third after a 2-0 win at Champion Hill kept last season`s play-off finalists AFC Hornchurch firmly at the bottom of the table. Xavier Vidal gave the Hamlet a 12th minute lead that Shawn McCloulsky added to six minutes into the second half.

Wingate & Finchley and neighbours Hendon complete the top five, but only the former managed to win.

They enjoyed a good 3-2 win at New Lodge against Billericay Town, who led through Richard Halle`s fifth minute effort. David Knight levelled from the penalty spot eight minutes later and then Tommy Tejan-Sie gave them the lead on the half-hour mark. Glenn Poole eventually pulled Town back on level terms with 15 minutes to go, only for Niko Muir to win it for Wingate in stoppage time.

Hendon shared a thrilling 3-3 draw with Tonbridge Angels at Longmead.

Lee O`Leary gave the visiting Greens a 13th minute lead that Leon Smith doubled 11 minutes later. A Billy Medlock brace after 40 and 45 minutes pulled Angels back on level terms and then two minutes after the break Dee Okojie gave them the lead. Casey MacLaren pulled Hendon back on terms just before the hour-mark.

Lewis Driver bagged a brace as Harrow Borough beat Leiston at Earlsmead, Driver breaking the deadlock in the 71st minute and then adding a second with three minutes to go.

Michael Charles was another to net twice on Saturday as he helped Metropolitan Police to a 4-1 win at Imber Court against Bury Town.

Connor Hall actually gave the visitors a seventh minute lead that Charlie Collins cancelled out in the 22nd minute. Joe Ricardo put the Met in front after 35 minutes and then Charles bagged his brace on 42 and 55 minutes.

Second-bottom VCD Athlteic picked up a useful point from a 1-1 draw at fellow newcomers Peacehaven & Telscombe.

Grant Basey gave the Vickers a 17th minute lead that was cancelled out 12 minutes from the end of the game by Jamie Brotherton.

Hampton & Richmond Borough`s recent slump seems to be over after a second game without defeat, beating East Thurrock United 2-1 at the Beveree.

Billy Jeffreys gave the Beavers a 36th minute lead that Simon Peddie levelled on 63 minutes. Charlie Moone won it for the hosts with 20 minutes to go.

Grays Athletic were stunned at home by Bognor Regis Town, whose Stuart Green grabbed the only goal of the game seven minutes into the second half.

Enfield Town also enjoyed a good win, 2-0 at Fetcham Grove against Leatherhead.

Mitch Hahn gave Town a 38th minute lead but the game wasn`t put to bed until stoppage time when Corey Whitely bagged the visitors second.

The game between Witham Town and Kingstonian was postponed due to the heavy overnight rain.
