Saturday's Ryman Premier action review

By David Watters

Leiston are showing no signs of blowing up as leaders of the Ryman League's Premier Division, Saturday`s 3-1 home win over Hampton & Richmond Borough maintaining the Suffolk outfit`s three-point lead at the top, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

But the hosts had to come back from being a 35th minute Nicke Kabamba goal down to win. Gareth Heath equalised nine minutes into the second half and then Joe Francis put them in front on the hour-mark. Heath made sure with a third in stoppage time.

Tonbridge Angels and Dulwich Hamlet are now second and third respectively following Grays Athletic`s Friday night defeat by Kingstonian.

Angels beat third-bottom Farnborough 2-0 at Longmead, thanks to a Luke Blewden brace after 12 and 55 minutes while Hamlet hammered bottom-markers VCD Athletic 5-2 at Champion Hill in front of a crowd of 1,961.

Dulwich did get a bit sloppy near the end to allow the Vickers to score twice through Aaron Wickham and Nathan Koranteng.

Canvey Island occupy fifth spot after beating Brentwood Town 1-0 at The Prospects Stadium, Tambeson Eyong scoring the only goal of the game after 67 minutes.

Bognor Regis Town are seventh after recording a similar win at Nyewood Lane against Harrow Borough, who had been in the top five themselves before suffering back-to-back defeats this week.

Defender Sami El-Abd scored the only goal to win this one third minutes after half-time. Wingate & Finchley returned to winning ways with another 1-0 win, this time at Leylands Park against Burgess Hill Town, courtesy of Ola Sogbanmu after 68 minutes.

Needham Market won the early season bottom four `three-pointer` by virtue of another 1-0 verdict against second-bottom Lewes at Bloomfields.

Michael Brothers scored the only goal 10 minutes into the second half, with the Rooks having Philip Appiah dismissed 14 minutes from time.

Staines Town leap-frogged Billericay Town into twelfth spot after beating them by the odd goal in five at New Lodge.

It was to prove to be Pat Cox`s day. He gave the Swans a 15th minute lead that the in-form Mike Fondop Talom cancelled out seven minutes later.

A 1-1 draw looked on the cards – but there was to be three more goals in the final four minutes – Cox making it 2-1 and then completing his hat-trick after Louis Hazlewood had equalised a minute earlier.

Enfield Town completed a comfortable 4-0 win against Leatherhead at the Queen Elizabeth II Stadium.

Tyler Campbell gave the home side a 24th minute lead that was eventually doubled by Ryan Doyle 11 minutes into the second period. Darnell Wynter addeds a third for Town on 66 minutes and Harry Ottaway the fourth with 11 minutes remaining.

Metropolitan Police gained three good points from a 2-0 win at Earlsmead against Hendon.

Taureen Roberts broke the deadlock to give the Met the lead after 66 minutes. And they ensured they went home with the points when Joe Turner added a second nine minutes from the end.

The game between Merstham and East Thurrock United finished all-square at 2-2 at the Moatside Stadium.

Top scorer Sam Higgins gave the Rocks an early fourth minute lead that Tommy Kavanagh cancelled out on 33 mknutes. Fabio Saraiva then put the Moatsiders in front on the hour-mark before Ryan Scott salvaged a point with 17 minutes to go.
