Saturday's Ryman Premier action review

By David Watters

Tonbridge Angels missed the opportunity to take over at the top of the Ryman Premier table on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

With leaders Dulwich Hamlet on FA Trophy duty, Steve McKimm`s side could have overtaken them had they won at New Lodge against Billericay Town.

However, instead they had to be content with a point, coming back from an early fifth minute Quentin Monville goal down to earn a share of the spoils, courtesy of Tom Parkinson two minutes before half-time.

Wingate & Finchley are now third, just a point behind Angels, after a 3-1 Harry Abrahams Stadium win over Harrow Borough.

And they also had to come back from being behind after David Taylor put Boro in front after 13 minutes. Billy Healey levelled five minutes before the break and seven minutes after it Alfie Bartram gave the home side a lead they stretched three minutes later through Healey again.

Leiston are fifth but could have moved into third or fourth had they managed to beat second-bottom VCD Athletic instead of share a goalless draw.

Canvey Island are now level on points with the Suffolk side in sixth after beating Leatherhead 3-1 at The Prospects Stadium.

Harrison Chatting gave the Gulls a ninth minute lead that Steve Sheehan doubled eight minutes later.

On-loan Dover Athletic man Chris Kinnear Jnr pulled the Tanners back into the game after 28 minutes but the hosts wrapped it up just past the hour-mark with a third from striker Tony Stokes.

Lewes remain firmly rooted to the bottom after losing 3-0 at Wheatsheaf Park against underachieving Staines Town.

Michael Kalu put the Swans ahead after 28 minutes and just four minutes later it was 2-0, thanks to Ahmed Abdulla. Ashley Lodge added the third 12 minutes from time.

Needham Market pulled themselves four points clear of the drop zone after a comprehensive 4-0 win against the team immediately below them, Brentwood Town.

A Jay Davies penalty after 10 minutes, Luke Ingram on 36 minutes and Callum Harrison two minutes before half-time saw the Marketmen three-up at the break, with Ollie Mann adding the fourth five minutes into the second period.

Hendon are level on points with Mark Morsley`s side and a place above after Kezie Ibe`s 18th minute effort eventually proved enough for the Greens to earn the points at Earlsmead against Burgess Hill Town.

Saturday`s other game between Enfield Town and Merstham finished all-square at the Queen Elizabeth II Stadium.

Town had led 2-0 with goals form Stanley Mugou after 17 minutes and Nathan Livings four minutes after the break but Calum Willock reduced the deficit six minutes later and then Fabio Saraiva equalised 13 minutes from time.
