Saturday's Ryman South action review

By David Watters

It`s a Kent south coast one-two in Ryman South following wins for leaders Folkestone Invicta and second-placed Ramsgate on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Folkestone remain six points clear at the top after recording a 3-1 win against lowly Peacehaven & Telscombe at the Fullicks Stadium.

A crowd of 664 saw Matt Newman put the home side in front after 11 minutes and Ian Draycott add their second seven minutes before the break. Dan Perry threatened a comeback when he reduced the arrears for Haven six minutes after the restart but a late Ashley Miller effort ensured the points remained in Folkestone.

The Rams had a much tougher test against a Molesey side who started the day in the top five.

Ian Pulman gave the home side a 28th minute lead, but Stafforde Palmer equalised nine minutes before the break. The game turned, however, on a penalty decision in the 81st minute when Molesey`s Rob Sheridan handled a goal-bound effort on the line and Joe Taylor duly converted the spot-kick to win it for the Rams.

Worthing are third and won in emphatic fashion on Saturday, beating Whyteleafe 5-1 at Woodside Road.

A crowd of 366 saw Callum Overton put the Rebels in front after just four minutes. Ryan Richefond doubled the hosts` lead five minutes later and it was effectively game over by the 35th minute after Harvey Sparks and Jordan Clark added two more for Worthing.

Vernon Francis reduced the arrears a minute before the break, with Richefond scoring the only goal of the second period to give the home side a nap hand 10 minutes from time.

Carshalton Athletic are fourth and they edged a five-goal encounter at fellow top five contenders Three Bridges.

Hakeem Adelakun gave Bridges a 25th minute lead that was immediately cancelled out by Billy Marshall. Ten minutes into the second half and Tony Garrod restored the home side`s lead, only for Kingsley Aikhionbare to pull the Robins back on terms once more 10 minutes later before Jordan Higgs won it for Carshalton.

Dorking Wanderers moved into the top five after beating bottom-markers Whitstable Town 2-0 at home.

The Oystermen held their hosts until 17 minutes from time when Ben Dyett broke the deadlock and then Tom Tolfrey made sure with Dorking`s second seven minutes later.

Whitstable`s afternoon got worse when they discovered that second-bottom Chipstead had won 6-1 – and away from home too!

Sittingbourne were the victims as they fell to a ninth successive league defeat and leave them hovering just above the drop zone. Charlie Carter and Derek Tieku had Chips 2-0 up inside five minutes.

Dane Luchford pulled one back for the hosts but Carter and Tieku both added second goals to their tally to make it 4-1 at the break. Jordan Clarke added a fifth on 72 minutes and Carter completed his hat-trick in the final seconds of the game.

Third-bottom East Grinstead Town picked up a point from a 1-1 home draw with Corinthian-Casuals to move level on points with Sittingbourne.

Both goals came inside the opening 13 minutes, with Juevan Spencer giving Casuals a fourth minute lead and Callum Emptage levelling.

Hastings United went nap at the Pilot Field against South Park.

The visitors fell to their heaviest defeat of the season against an improving Hastings outfit who were in front after just four minutes through Simon Johnson. Sean Ray doubled that on 23 minutes and Jack Harris added a third two minutes later, only for Karl Parker to respond within two minutes for the visitors.

Billy Medlock made it 4-1 just before half-time and Sam Crutwell scored the only goal of a quieter second period on 66 minutes to make it 5-1.

Herne Bay beat Walton Casuals 4-0 at Winch`s Field, going in front in the 8th minute, courtesy of Danny Williams.

Connor Sanders made it 2-0 just before the break and then two more in the final 10 minutes from Elliot Cutts and Jamie Turner completed the scoring.

Herne Bay won the Kent derby at Chatham Town, coming back from being a 10th minute Kieron McCann goal down to win, thanks to Frankie Sawyer after 27 minutes and Alfie May 10 minutes later.

Faversham Town were the day`s other winners, seeing off Tooting & Mitcham United by the same scoreline at the Shepherd Neame Stadium thanks to a brace from Liam King in the 27th and 48th minutes – all after Jake Baxter had given the Terrors an early eighth minute lead from the spot.
