September's safest hands named

By David Watters

Tonbridge Angels keeper Anthony Di Bernardo, Kieron Thorp at Three Bridges and Cray Wanderers stopper Nick Blue have been unveiled as the latest winners of the Ryman League's safe hands awards.

After being named on Monday, September's Precision Golden Glove Award winners are now looking forward to collecting their accolades as the league's top keepers last month in the Ryman Premier, Ryman South and Ryman North divisions respectively.

Signed in May from Peacehaven & Telscombe, 32-year-old Di Bernardo scooped the top flight's honour after being beaten just once in four league outings as Steve McKimm's side recorded three wins and a single defeat to climb to second.

Former VCD Athletic keeper Blue followed his manager Tony Russell to Cray Wanderers this season after his heroics helped stave of relegation and keep the Vickers in the top flight last term.

To win the Ryman North award, the former Charlton Athletic, Beckenham Town, Erith Town and Holmesdale keeper conceded just twice in six wins and a draw to help take the Wands to the top of the table.

Thorp signed for Three Bridges in July 2014 after turning out for Dulwich Hamlet, Lewes, Crawley Down Gatwick and Horsham. He takes the Ryman South accolade for his record of conceding six times in five wins and two defeats, results that have lifted Paul Faili's side up to fourth in the table.

The ‘safe hands’ accolades returned the season before last with new sponsors from Nottingham-based Reydon Sports PLC - the UK's largest sports and leisure wholesale and distribution company.
