Short extends his stay

Bury Town

Defender Russell Short has committed his immediate future to Bury Town by signing a non-contract deal but could still depart the Ryman League club this summer.

The Bury Free Press are reporting that a number of professional clubs remain interested in Short but the right-back, pictured, is insisting he is going nowhere without the right offer and will happily stay to aid the Premier Division outfit's promotion push.

Short, who made more than 50 appearances last term, told the paper's website: "There may be other opportunities but I’m committed to Bury on a non-contract basis. It suits me down to the ground and if nothing materialises I’ll talk again with the club."

He added: "The players we’ve brought in are all high quality and are good lads, so that’s a bonus, and everyone wants the same thing — the aim is to try and go up to the next level."

Signed from Wivenhoe Town in January 2009, Short progressed through the youth system at Ipswich Town and has also played for Histon.
