Witham Town skipper Paul King has dedicated the Ryman North club's history-making FA Cup win at Needham Market to former club chairman Tony Last.

Last, pictured, passed away in July at the club’s Village Glass Stadium in Spa Road aged 65 and never got to see his beloved club play in the Ryman League's top flight following promotion in May via the play-offs for Garry Kimble's side.

Last had been at the Essex club for more than 15 years and had been chairman for the last decade after holding numerous roles including managing the the club's youth, reserves and first teams.

As a result, King and his team-mates are only too aware of how much their FA Cup Third Qualifying Round victory in Suffolk would have meant to him and they are now looking forward to making more history on Saturday week when Town host Conference South West-Super-Mare in the competition's final qualifying round.

In an interview with the Bury Free Press, Town's captain said: "I spoke to [Tony’s widow] Linda after the game and I told her 'this one’s for Tony'. He’d have been looking down on us and I bet he’d have been kicking every ball.

"It’s such a shame that he never got to see us play in the Premier Division, but that one was definitely for him. We’re just buzzing to have got through and made more club history."
