Metropolitan Police skipper Steve Sutherland is on the mend after collapsing at Imber Court on Tuesday night during the Robert Dyas League Cup clash with Harrow Borough.

The defender, pictured, was treated by paramedics after collapsing in the tunnel at half-time during the 3-0 fourth round win for Borough. The 31-year-old had been suffering from a chest complaint over Christmas, missing their Boxing Day win in the Ryman Premier at Earlsmead, and had thought he’d shaken it off before being helped from pitch at the interval and collapsing moments later.

In a statement on their website, the Met said the former Walton Casuals and Tooting & Mitcham player was treated by Surrey Ambulance medics and was later well enough to be taken home by his wife.

Sutherland saw his doctor on Wednesday and has been prescribed medication to clear up the infection, leaving manager Jim Cooper awaiting further reports on his captain's progress as the club wished him a speedy recovery.
