Stalwart targets next milestone

Sittingbourne stalwart Hicham Akhazzan is looking forward to securing a scoring milestone after being congratulated on a decade of service to the Ryman South's Brickies.

A PE teacher by day, after arriving from Chatham Town the 28-year-old made his debut back on the 14 November 2006 when Sittingbourne played Maidstone United in the Kent Senior Cup.

Officials at Woodstock Park paid tribute to the striker on Monday for his 430 appearances and the 98 goals he's scored as he targets two more to reach the century mark.

Brickies secretary John Pitts said: “Hicham has been an absolutely fantastic role model for all players. He has been so loyal, so much so that I have forgotten how many notices of approach Hicham has turned down in his time at the club.

"Each time I tell him of an approach he just says 'I'm going nowhere!' and it is rare these days for a player to show such loyalty to a club."

He added: "The two goals needed to reach the 100 goal mark has been elusive but hopefully he will hit that milestone soon."
