Stopper scores table-topping goal!

Former Bishops Stortford, Braintree, Chelmsford City, King's Lynn, Hornchurch, Southend and St Neots stopper Danny Gay scored an injury-time equaliser on Tuesday night to take Needham Market to the top of the Ryman Premier table.

The Markemen overtook Leiston at the top after the 34-year-old keeper went up for a corner deep into injury time and headed home an unlikely equaliser in a 2-2 draw at Canvey Island.

The Marketmen looked to have spurned their chance to go top after John Sands had put them in front in the seventh minute before second-half goals from Joey May and Harrison Chatting put their Essex hosts ahead with just over a quarter of an hour left on the clock.

A graduate of the youth, academy and reserve sides at Norwich City, Gay, pictured, rejoined Mark Morsley's squad at Bloomfields in September 2015 after leaving Southern League St Neots.
